Interested in affordable housing in Plaza Midwood? There’s a forum planned for Feb. 4 to discuss the topic with Charlotte City Council member LaWana Mayfield.
Mayfield, a Democrat, was recently named to chair the Housing and Neighborhood Development committee by Mayor Jennifer Roberts. The February forum is being organized by Plaza Midwood Shows Up, a group started by local residents in response to the wave of new construction.

This comes as hundreds of new apartments are being built in Plaza Midwood, with 12,300 under construction across the city – an all-time record. Average rent has topped $1,000 a month in Charlotte for the first time, and most of the new apartments underway are targeting the high end of the market.
