Apartments aren’t just being built in record numbers in the close-in areas that get the most attention: They’re also popping up throughout the more suburban parts of Charlotte.
Horizons at Steele Creek recently filed a rezoning request that would allow for 48 more apartments on top of the 288 already being built. The site is located off Steele Creek Road near Smokemont Drive, on wooded land south of Interstate 485.
CIP Construction, a division of the Greensboro-based Carroll Companies, is behind the project. “Along with convenience, this community will offer the most innovative and demanded apartment home features and amenities,” the company said in its description.
The Horizons at Steele Creek includes a dozen three-story buildings with surface parking, a clubhouse and a pool.
It’s all part of the record apartment-building boom in Charlotte, with about 12,300 apartments under construction and 13,500 planned after that.
