Charlotte-based apartment developer Proffitt Dixon is planning to build an apartment complex on vacant land adjacent to Toringdon, an office park in Ballantyne.
According to preliminary plans filed with the city of Charlotte, the upscale apartments would be 245 units and include a parking deck. Records show the 3.5-acre site, near Interstate 485 and Johnston Road, is owned by an LLC affiliated with Trinity Partners.
Wyatt Dixon, principal and co-founder of Proffitt Dixon, said a final name hasn’t been chosen for the project, which is referred to as Fountains at Toringdon in preliminary planning documents.
“The yet-to-be named project will be the only walkable urban apartment development in Ballantyne,” said Dixon. Residents would be able to walk to the adjacent offices and retail, including an Earth Fare supermarket. The apartments are near Ballantyne Corporate Park, a major employment center, as well.

Proffitt Dixon has been active in the Charlotte market lately. The company is putting the finishing touches on the Presley, a 230-unit apartment building at Stonewall and McDowell streets, and is building a 258-unit apartment complex called Fountains Matthews, on Matthews Township Parkway.
The company also has the Actor’s Theatre property on Stonewall and an adjoining city-owned parcel under contract. Plans are in the early stages there, but Proffitt Dixon is looking to build a six-story building with 300 apartments and 8,000 to 10,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space.
