A new kind of project is in the works at the Interstate 485/Prosperity Church Road interchange: A self-storage facility that’s mixed-use.
Plans filed recently with the city of Charlotte call for a new building that would include offices, shops and a large self-storage facility, integrated into the same building just south of the interchange. The land is currently vacant and wooded.
The three-story project would include:

▪ 9,500 square feet of retail, such as shops and restaurants.
▪ 101,000 square feet of self-storage facility space.
Charlotte-based Development-Management Inc. is behind the project. The company develops and manages shopping centers and self-storage facilities. Charlotte City Council is set to hold a hearing on the proposal April 18.
North Charlotte isn’t the only place developers are looking to build self-storage facilities mixed with other uses. Two such projects are also proposed in Plaza Midwood and Belmont, just east of uptown.
