If you’ve been wondering what the new building under construction on Monroe Road near Washburn Avenue is, here’s the answer: An expansion of the Atlantic Self Storage facility.
Frank Arey, one of the partners who owns the business, said they are building a 54,000-square-foot, three-story addition to the facility. The addition will be enclosed and served by elevators, and should be open later this year.
Atlantic already has a variety of storage options, including climate-controlled units with roll-up doors, “mega” units with high ceilings and parking for boats, RVs and other vehicles. Atlantic also operates a Penske moving truck franchise at the location. The site is adjacent to a Public Storage facility, which is made up of single-story storage with roll-up doors.
Charlotte is in the midst of a self-storage boom, driven by the wave of apartment dwellers who need a place to put their stuff. You can read a longer story I wrote last month about the topic, and some of the other facilities under construction, online here.
