If you’re into construction and watching new buildings rise but don’t have time to drive past every major construction site daily, you should be watching construction cameras.

A nerdy but rewarding pastime, publicly viewable construction cameras are pointed at many of the region’s largest construction projects. They update with fresh photos every half hour or so, and give you the option of viewing a time-lapse to compress months into seconds and watch buildings climb rapidly into the sky.

Here are four of the most rapidly progressing construction projects. A few months ago, they were mostly just holes in the ground.

▪ 300 South Tryon/Kimpton Hotel

This 25-story office tower, developed by Spectrum Properties and anchored by Babson Capital, and 216-room Charlotte Kimpton are scheduled to open next next year. They’ll reshape a stretch of uptown that was long dominated by a surface parking lot favored by Panthers tailgaters.

▪ 615 South College Street

A 19-story office tower developed by Portman Holdings adjacent to the Westin Hotel, construction is moving rapidly. An anchor tenant hasn’t been announced yet.

▪ 500 East Morehead

Beacon Partners is developing this seven-story, speculative office building on East Morehead Street.

▪ SkyHouse II

The second SkyHouse tower, a mirror image of the first, is topping out Wednesday. With 336 apartments at Ninth and Church streets, it’s expected to open to its first residents this fall.

They grow up so fast, don’t they?
