A new hotel is headed to Steele Creek.

The 120-room Residence Inn by Marriott will be located at the intersection of Dixie River Road and Trojan Drive, on a lot that’s currently vacant. Raleigh-based MJM Group is developing the $20 million project, which will include amenities such as an outdoor pool, meeting spaces and a fitness center.

It’s the latest hotel project in Charlotte for MJM, which also developed the dual-branded Residence Inn and Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott near Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Another hotel project, a 118-room Courtyard by Marriott at Statesville Road and W.T. Harris Boulevard, stalled and was eventually torn down last year after disputes with the contractor.

The hotel is set to open in late 2017 and will be managed by Midas Hospitality. St. Louis-based Gray Design is the architect.

MJM bought the 3.5-acre site in May for just over $1 million, real estate records show. Childress Klein partner Chris Thomas represented the seller, and Selwyn Property Group’s Kurt Schoenhoff represented MJM Group.
