Steele Creek could soon get a lot more dense, with developer Pulte Home Corp. proposing hundreds of new apartments and houses along with retail on a site on Brown-Grier Road.
According to a rezoning request made public Thursday, Pulte is seeking to build up to 292 multifamily residences, 550 attached single-family houses and 80,000 square feet of non-residential uses such as shops. The site along Brown-Grier Road at Steele Creek Road is currently used for agriculture, with several houses.
A Pulte representative could not immediately be reached for more information. Charlotte City Council will hold a hearing on the plan and vote on it in the coming months.
It’s the latest development news for an area that’s seen a growth spurt in the past several years, since Charlotte Premium Outlets opened in 2013. A developer this week announced a 120-room Residence Inn by Marriott at Dixie River Road and Trojan Drive, and in April, a developer broke ground on a 271-unit apartment project at Brown-Grier Road and Sandy Porter Road, near the Pulte development.
In all, 1,113 new residences are proposed or underway on the 1-mile stretch of Brown-Grier Road.
