The church, currently located on Old Concord Road, is seeking to build a 750-seat facility at 8400 Reedy Creek Road, on a 10-acre site. The vacant land is currently zoned for residential use. Harbor Baptist bought the land in 2014 for $500,000, real estate records show.
Plans for the site could also include a childcare facility or school.
Pastor Kenneth Simmons said Harbor Baptist has been planning the expansion for years. The church’s current building was damaged in 2014, when the sanctuary burned in accidental fire.
“We’re outgrowing our current facilities,” said Simmons. “The architectural plans are pretty much done.”
Charlotte City Council will hear and vote on the rezoning plan in the coming months.
