The architecture firm designing Dimensional Fund Advisor’s new regional headquarters in South End posted a new rendering of the planned office building, which will be built on the former site of Common Market, Food Truck Friday and other shops.
The rendering shows a sleek and modern building, with a largely glass facade and a two-story atrium. Here’s a quick refresher on the project: Dimensional Fund Advisors, an Austin-based financial firm, is building a 285,000 square foot East Coast headquarters on the triangular lot. The 2.3-acre site is being developed by Cousins Properties. The land sold for $12.2 million earlier this year, and construction is expected to start by the end of 2016.
A Duda Paine representative said the rendering is not finalized, and the tweet has since been taken down.
The project will bring 316 jobs to Charlotte, and Dimensional is receiving $18 million worth of state and local incentives. Plans for the building also include public art and 15,500 square feet of retail space for shops and restaurants, largely located at the building’s three corners.
Reaction on social media was mixed. Many said they were big fans of the design.
Others definitely weren’t pleased.
And some folks pointed out that the cars in the rendering didn’t seem quite right for South End.
