Harris Teeter will be adding a store and gas station in a new development called Riverbend Village, a major mixed-use project in northwest Charlotte near Mountain Island Lake.
The grocery store is expected to begin construction in 2017, according to a statement from MPV Properties, the firm that’s marketing the property. Other retailers in the development include restaurants, shops, a hotel and possibly a movie theater, MPV said.
The Matthews-based grocer bought the main portion of the site for $5.9 million in a deal that closed last week, real estate records show. A separate entity, HT Fuel NC, bought an adjacent tract of land for $850,000.
After Kroger bought Harris Teeter in January 2014, it has gradually started adding many of its own features to Harris Teeter stores. Harris Teeter’s first North Carolina gas station opened in Harrisburg in December, and it added its latest one in Mooresville in July.

In all, the grocer bought 8.4 acres at the new development.
Riverbend’s directly across from an existing Harris Teeter at 3540 Mt Holly-Huntersville Road. It’s unclear if that store will close as the new one reopens. The grocer couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.
