Driven by a local demand for luxury vehicles, Foreign Cars Charlotte is expanding its facility that sells high-end cars on Tyvola Road. The dealer also plans to double its staff over the coming months.

Paramount Automotive Group, the Hickory-based company that owns the dealership, already sells Aston Martins and Maseratis at its location at Interstate 77 and Tyvola Road. The company started selling Bentleys there about nine months ago, said Benny Yount, the company’s president and CEO.

The expanded luxury dealership will be next door at 400 Tyvola Road, formerly occupied by Scott Jaguar. The Hendrick Automotive Group earlier this year bought Scott Jaguar, Charlotte’s only Jaguar dealership, and moved it from Tyvola Road to its auto mall on East Independence Boulevard.

Yount said demand for luxury cars is the reason for the expansion. The dealership’s current space is 16,000 square feet; its new spot will be roughly 60,000 square feet, Young said. The staff of about 20 will grow to 40-50 within a year.

“It really has picked up in the last few years, that’s for sure. We’ve had a presence in Charlotte for 10 years plus. We have a number of customers in the Charlotte area already,” Yount said.

The renovated space will look like Foreign Cars Greensboro, he added. It will also get some “much needed repairs,” such as a new roof.

Construction is already underway. A building between Foreign Cars Charlotte’s current space and the old Scott Jaguar spot has already been demolished, Yount said. The goal is to wrap up construction in about nine months.
