Amélie's French Bakery is gearing up for the opening of its new location in south Charlotte.
An employee at the bakery’s NoDa location said the new Carmel Commons store will likely open within six weeks, or by mid-May. The highly anticipated opening date keeps getting pushed back as Amelie’s wraps up administrative and contracting work.
The restaurant has said the new spot will have a full kitchen and will serve beer, wine and crepes.
The NoDa employee also said Amelie’s has hired workers for the Carmel Commons store and is now training them at the NoDa store. On its Facebook page, the bakery had said it was looking for qualified bakers and “pastry aficionados” for its newest location as well as at its first store in the NoDa neighborhood, which opened in 2008 and is known for its quirky decor and round-the-clock hours.

The new bakery will operate from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m. on weekdays and from 7 a.m. until 11 p.m. or midnight on weekends, the employee said.
Carmel Commons is across the street from Charlotte Catholic High School at the intersection of Carmel and Pineville-Matthews roads. Work on the 5,000-square-foot store began last fall.
Amélie’s also has bakeries in Atlanta and Rock Hill.
