A new restaurant and a coffee shop will open soon in the Berewick shopping center in Steele Creek: Fuzzy’s Taco Shop and Starbucks.

Fuzzy’s, a Texas-based chain, is opening early this summer in a free-standing building on Steele Creek Road next to Mod Pizza and McAlister’s Deli, according to a statement Monday from Pappas Properties, the Charlotte firm developing Berewick.

This will be Fuzzy’s first North Carolina location, according to its website.

Starbucks will join the shopping center’s anchor tenant, a 53,000 square-foot Harris Teeter grocery store that opened last year.

Opening dates for both new spots were not immediately available.

Berewick, the 1,200-acre subdivision located at Shopton Road West and Steele Creek Road, about eight miles southwest of uptown Charlotte, includes more than 75,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space, a “village green,” apartments and offices.

National chains including Wendy’s, Walgreen’s and TCBY are already open in the center’s retail portion. A 135-room Hampton Inn and Suites is under construction.

The 351-member Steele Creek Presbyterian Church voted to sell its old manse property to Charlotte Douglas International Airport and to explore possible future mergers with one of the other Presbyterian churches in the Steele Creek area. Any merger
