A new shoe store called Shoe Dept. Encore opens soon on the second level at Northlake Mall.
Construction is about 90 percent completed on the 6,646 square-foot space, mall manager Adam Kamlet said. The store is expected to open within the next two weeks.
Similar to a low-cost retailer like DSW, Shoe Dept. Encore sells shoes, handbags and other accessories at discounted prices. The retailer has about 20 other stores in North Carolina, including another one opening soon in Concord Mills, according to the outlet mall’s website.
The new shoe store combines three old store spaces: A wine bar called The Grape, a store called Raw, and The Walking Company, which relocated recently to another second-level spot near Belk, Kamlet said.
Northlake, one of the biggest shopping malls in the region, this week confirmed that it is rethinking plans it announced about two years ago for a $50 million addition adjacent to the mall’s entrance.
Northlake opened in 2005 and was sold to the private real estate investment firm Starwood Retail Partners in 2014.
