A new Walmart Neighborhood Market in Morganton is slated to open this summer.
The store will be at 1001 N. Green Street, at the intersection of Wamsutta Mill Road and just over half a mile from the Food Lion on Bost Road.
An exact opening date was not immediately available.
The Neighborhood Market concept is Walmart’s answer to the traditional grocery store. The Morganton location is approximately 41,000 square feet, the size of a typical market like Harris Teeter. Neighborhood Markets generally employ about 95 people.

The stores typically offer a full line of groceries, from fresh produce to meats and a deli, and an array of other merchandise, from beauty products to cleaning supplies.
“We’re just about ready – stocking the shelves and preparing to open our doors,” store manager Gene Taylor said in a statement.
According to sales-tracking firm Chain Store Guide, Walmart is the biggest grocer in the Charlotte area by market share, right above Harris Teeter. Walmart’s been expanding aggressively in Charlotte with the Neighborhood Market concept: Six new stores operated in the metro area last year, up from two the year before.
