Walgreens is in the process of closing several more Rite Aid stores in the Charlotte area than was previously reported.

In addition to the five Charlotte stores set to close in the next month, Rite Aids in Mooresville, Gastonia, Mint Hill and Cornelius will soon close. Additionally, two stores in University City will close next month, and a Rite Aid store in Huntersville closed last month, Walgreens spokesman Phil Caruso said Friday.

The local closures reported by the Observer this week are part of Walgreens' deal announced last fall to buy 1,932 Rite Aid stores, mostly in the South and Northeast. Walgreens said at the time it planned to close about 600 Rite Aids.

With each Rite Air location affected, the store will remain open for about two weeks after the pharmacy’s last day of business for a final sale.
