A new Walmart Neighborhood Market in east Charlotte is slated to open this summer.
The 42,000-square-foot store is at 8800 E. W.T. Harris Blvd., near I-485. Workers at the store have begun stocking shelves in preparation for the opening of the new store, which will sell a full line of groceries and assorted merchandise.
“We’re bringing convenient shopping and low prices to Charlotte, and the wait is almost over,” store manager Jason Brown said in a statement.
An exact opening date was not immediately available.

The Neighborhood Market concept is Walmart’s version of a standard grocery store. It typically employs about 95 people. Walmart is the biggest grocer in the Charlotte area by market share, right above Harris Teeter, according to sales-tracking firm Chain Store Guide.
Walmart has been expanding aggressively in Charlotte with the Neighborhood Market concept. Six new stores operated in the metro area last year, up from two the year before. Most recently, Morganton opened its first Neighborhood Market earlier this month.
