Relief is in sight for those despairing the recent lack of fresh breakfast sandwich options in South End.
Closed since May 3 when a car struck its back wall, Owen’s Bagel & Deli will reopen in another week or two.
Its building, deemed unsafe after the accident, has since been under construction because of structural damage, owner Ashley Wyrick told the Observer. The entire back wall had to be demolished and replaced, and that was completed just a few days ago, she added.
“It’s taken so much time because of the city needing to approve building permits and whatnot. I have just learned of all the regulations and how timely something like this can be,” Wyrick, a Johnson & Wales University graduate, wrote in an email.

Given how long the deli has been closed, the loss of revenue has been “significant,” Wyrick said.
But, she added, the accident has made her a stronger business owner, and she’s ready to come back in full force once the shop reopens.
“We have grown so much just in the last six months and my vision for where I want to take Owen’s is now fueled even more because of this incident,” Wyrick said.
Owen’s, known for its steamed bagel sandwiches and graffitied interior, is at 2041 South Blvd., Suite G, next to Polished Nail Bar & Spa.
