Dilworth Coffee has opened its fifth area location with a store in Matthews. The coffee shop will hold a grand opening on July 25.
The new shop is at 3016 Weddington Road, Suite 600, in the Plantation Market shopping center across the street from the Siskey YMCA.
Hilina Girma, a native of Ethiopia who has lived in Charlotte for 15 years, will operate the new location. This is her first “entrepreneurial coffee venture,” according to a statement from Dilworth Coffee this week.
“We are from Ethiopia so I grew up around coffee, and now that my children are older, I wanted to try something new,” Girma said in a statement. “Coffee seemed like a natural choice since it has been such an important part of my family’s heritage.”

The new Matthews coffee shop will serve exclusively Dilworth Coffee, which is small-batch coffee roasted by Raleigh-based Stockton Graham & Co.
Hours of the cafe are 6:30 a.m.-7 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturdays.
Dilworth neighborhood residents Don and Alyene Keen founded Dilworth Coffeehouse in November 1989, before Starbucks was a household name. Since then, the company changed its name to Dilworth Coffee and now operates five Charlotte-area locations. It also has licensing agreements with other shops in the Carolinas and Georgia.
