A new Walmart Neighborhood Market will open in Hickory in September.
Walmart said it’s hiring up to 95 full- and part-time workers to staff the store ahead of the opening, and the company has set up a temporary hiring center at Springs Crossing shopping center, 3210 Springs Road NE.
The new store will be located at Springs Road NE and McDonald Parkway, a Walmart spokeswoman said.
The majority of new workers will begin in September to prepare for the store’s grand opening. An exact opening date and store address weren’t immediately available.
Applicants can apply at the center Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Those interested can also apply online at http://careers.walmart.com, and can contact the hiring center at 828-256-9004.
Walmart said it will offer a job to any eligible U.S. veteran honorably discharged from active duty. Veterans interested in employment can visit http://walmartcareerswithamission.com for additional details.
Benefits available to eligible full- and part-time workers, Walmart said, include affordable health care coverage, matching 401(k) contributions, discounts on merchandise, life insurance, stock purchase program and a quarterly incentive based on store performance.
The Neighborhood Market is Walmart’s version of a traditional grocery store. It typically offers an array of fresh groceries, meats, frozen foods and a pharmacy.
Walmart is the biggest grocery chain in the Charlotte area by market share, right above Harris Teeter, according to sales-tracking firm Chain Store Guide.
