A Mexican restaurant called Hot Taco will soon take the place formerly occupied by Greek Isles in South End.
The new cantina at 200 E. Bland St. will feature “eclectic Mexican,” with a focus on authentic dishes and chef-inspired creations, says Jenny Eickmeyer, training and development manager at the Bottle Cap Group, which is opening the new restaurant.
The group recently stripped off the Greek Isles sign from the building’s side facing the light rail, exposing the name Dominick’s, the name of an older Italian restaurant many South End millennials — including this one — probably don’t recognize.
Hot Taco is slated to open in mid-September. Not many updates needed to be made at the former Greek Isles spot, Eickmeyer said, except for some painting and recovering some of the booths.

“It’s going to be a very cool concept. Very upbeat, authentic Mexican. It’s going to be really fun,” said Tom Wicker, a managing partner of the Bottle Cap Group. Wicker added that it will eventually also have mariachi bands and DJs.
The cantina will have an outdoor patio like Greek Isles did, and Eickmeyer said plans in the future are to “really step up the patio.”
The restaurant’s bar menu will feature Mexican-inspired cocktails like frozen and specialty margaritas, as well as local craft beers. It will serve brunch on Saturdays and Sundays with a brunch drink list as well.
Hot Taco is hiring for all front-of-house and back-of-house restaurant positions, including hosts, servers, barbacks, bartenders, line-cooks, dishwashers and bussers. Those interested can apply online or in-person at All American Pub, which is owned by Bottle Cap.
The restaurant group, which also operates several other area bars and restaurants including Whiskey Warehouse, master-leased the entire building from MPV Properties. Greek Isles management has said they’re scouting a new location, possible in or near South End.
