It appears that a new J. Crew concept is coming to the Park Road Shopping Center.

A building permit was issued last week for J. Crew Mercantile at 4217 Park Road. That’s the former space of Toys & Co., which closed its doors at that location last winter.

J. Crew Mercantile is a new concept from the retailer that features the same products found at J. Crew Factory stores, according to its website. It currently has a shop open in Dallas, with “additional locations coming soon.”

Unlike J. Crew outlet stores, which are often located in outlet malls outside a city, J. Crew Mercantile stores will be in “more traditional shopping locales closer to residential areas,” Bloomberg reported recently. J. Crew will open 10 Mercantile stores this year, “with future expansion plans into 2016.”

Edens, which manages the Park Road Shopping Center, declined to provide any additional details Monday. Edens bought the complex in 2011 for $82 million and has undertaken extensive renovations since.

Recently, Chopt opened its first stores outside the New York and Washington, D.C., regions in the Park Road Shopping Center, and Edens also said earlier this month it is adding two new restaurants and a bank to the former Monkey Joe’s spot.
