BJ’s Wholesale Club in Charlotte’s Metropolitan shopping center will open Nov. 14.
A spokeswoman for the retailer confirmed the date this week. The Midtown store is located in a 101,00 square-foot space at 900 Metropolitan Ave., in the former Home Depot Design Center.
The Home Depot space had been empty since its 2009 closure. It was bought earlier this year for $14 million by Property Markets Group, a New York-based firm. A representative from the firm has said it is still looking for a tenant for the remaining 21,000 square feet.
During its grand opening weekend, current members and the general public can come to the new store for food and beverage sampling, balloon artists and face painters, spokeswoman Maria Fruci said.
Fruci added that the retailer will add about 110 jobs at the new store. According to the retailer’s website, it’s looking to fill an assortment of jobs including baker, deli clerk, forklift driver and meat cutter.
Ahead of its opening, BJ’s had been offering promotions by mail for specials like two months of free membership and $10 off.
Construction of the BJ’s property is being handled by McCrory Construction, a Columbia-based firm.
This will be Charlotte’s first BJ’s location. The retailer operates nine other stores in North Carolina, according to its website.
