Walmart is preparing to open a Neighborhood Market this winter in the McMullen Creek Market, located right off Pineville-Matthews Road. This will be Pineville’s first Walmart.

Ahead of the opening, Walmart said this week it will hire 95 part-time and full-time workers. It has set up a temporary hiring center near the store at 8322 Pineville-Matthews Road, Suite 707.

Walmart did not provide an exact opening date for the new 45,005 square-foot store, located next to Staples. The store said, though, that the majority of new workers will begin work in December to help prepare for the grand opening.

The retailer will accept applications at the hiring center Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Those interested can also apply online at http://careers.walmart.com.

Walmart said it will offer a job to any eligible U.S. veteran honorably discharged from active duty. Veterans interested in employment can visit http://walmartcareerswithamission.com for additional details.

Benefits available to eligible full- and part-time workers include affordable health care coverage, matching 401(k) contributions, discounts on merchandise, life insurance, stock purchase program and a quarterly incentive based on store performance, Walmart said.

The Neighborhood Market is Walmart’s answer to the traditional supermarket. A store typically offers an array of fresh groceries, meats, frozen foods and a pharmacy. The retailer has been expanding the concept rapidly throughout the region, adding to the already competitive local grocery market.

Walmart is the Charlotte area’s biggest grocery chain by market share, right above Harris Teeter, according to sales-tracking firm Chain Store Guide.
