It looks like a Harris Teeter in Charlotte could be getting a gas station, which would be a first locally.
Property records suggest a fuel station will be included at a Harris Teeter store under construction in the Berewick shopping center in the Steele Creek area. The store is expected to open in the spring.
A representative from general contractor Shelco, which is handling Berewick’s construction, said developer Pappas Properties has discussed plans preliminarily for fuel stations, but declined to offer additional details.
Pappas Properties and Harris Teeter declined to comment.

Kroger started implementing some of its own initiatives at Harris Teeter stores when it completed its acquisition of the Matthews-based grocer in January 2014. At the time, Kroger said it was considering bringing gas stations to Harris Teeter stores.
Plans are underway to add a gas station to a Harris Teeter store in Fort Mill, S.C., as well as another supermarket under construction in Harrisburg, N.C.
Gas stations could give Harris Teeter a way of differentiating itself in Charlotte’s competitive grocery market, especially as rival Publix expands its local footprint and gains market share. Harris Teeter has also been upgrading existing locations and adding new ones close to rival stores.
Construction began late last year on the Berewick shopping center, which includes the 53,000-square-foot Harris Teeter. Residential construction on the Berewick community began about 10 years ago, and residents have been waiting for the grocery store and other amenities included in the master plan.
Plans for the Berewick Town Center, located along Steele Creek Road between Dixie River Road and Shopton Road West, also include a Walgreens and additional space for retail, restaurants and a hotel.
