J.C. Penney is opening at 3 p.m. on Thanksgiving, two hours earlier than last year.

The department store is touting this Thanksgiving/Black Friday as “one of the biggest sales events” in its history, and it will feature thousands of door-buster deals to lure shoppers to stores early.

The chain said Thanksgiving giveaways for early bird customers include coupons worth $10 off every $10 spent, or $100 off $100, both of which are immediately redeemable in stores. “Some lucky customers” also could win coupons worth $500 off $500, the store said.

J.C. Penney will also be offering over 50,000 Cyber Monday deals both online and in stores Nov. 29-30. On those days, the store is also offering an extra 30 percent off online purchases of $100 or more with the code GR8DEAL and free shipping on orders of at least $49.

J.C. Penney is opening this year a bit earlier than competitors in the Charlotte area, including Kohl’s, Target and Belk, all which plan to open at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving.

J.C. Penney operates eight stores in the Charlotte region, including at Carolina Place and Eastridge malls.
