Two new restaurants are coming to Park Road Shopping Center in the former Monkey Joe’s spot: Burton’s Grill and Urban Cookhouse.
Both are expected to open in the spring, according to a memo Wednesday from the shopping center’s owner, Edens.
Burton’s Grill features made-from-scratch, locally inspired dishes and says it offers “upscale dining in a casual environment.” The Massachusetts-based chain operates 10 East Coast locations, though this is its first North Carolina restaurant.
Urban Cookhouse cooks its meats on Big Green Egg grills and features menu options made with ingredients from local farmers. The Alabama chain operates at least eight other restaurants in the Southeast, and Park Road will be its first in North Carolina.
“Charlotte’s just a great market and somewhere in the Southeast you need to be,” William Gillespie, Urban Cookhouse’s president and CEO, told the Observer. He said he “absolutely” intends to add more Charlotte locations.
Lyle Darnall, managing director of Edens, said bringing quality dining options to Park Road Shopping Center has been an “ongoing goal of the redevelopment.”
“These new vibrant concepts will complement our already unique collection of retail and restaurants,” Darnall said in a statement.
The former Monkey Joe’s building was demolished in September. Edens has said the new building’s third tenant will be a bank.
Columbia-based Edens bought the Park Road Shopping Center in 2011 for $82 million and has undertaken extensive renovations and brought in new tenants.
