A new French bistro concept called Aix en Provence has quietly opened in the spot on Providence Road once occupied by the restaurant Terra.
Patrick Garrivier, who bought Terra about three months ago with business partner Bryan St. Clair, describes Aix en Provence as a Provencal with Mediterranean influences, incorporating flavors from northern Italy, northern Spain and northern Africa.
“I’ve only been here for 2.5 years, and it seems like French restaurants are very limited. We wanted to do a nice little comfortable, homey neighborhood bistro,” says Garrivier, who is from France and previously was the general manager at Lumière on Providence.
The restaurant hasn’t been advertising yet but is open and taking reservations. Garrivier says the grand opening is scheduled for Jan. 2.
Inside the restaurant, the new owners have changed the whole look, from new lighting to new flooring and fresh paint. They’ve also added a new canopy outside. The restaurant seats 56.
Terra closed its doors earlier this month at 545-B Providence Road.
