A paint bar called Studio Cellar will open in February in South End near the East/West light rail station.
The new studio at 1800 Camden Road will offer painting classes and an event space available to rent. Beer, wine and non-alcoholic drinks will be available to purchase on site.
Charlotte Gaskins, who opened first Studio Cellar in Columbia two years ago, said the goal is to open the Charlotte studio by Valentine’s Day. “It’s a huge day for us and a great date night experience,” Gaskins said.
As is the case with the Columbia location, the plan for the South End studio is to partner with a nearby restaurant to serve appetizers and other snacks instead of building out a kitchen.

“It’s a win-win for everybody. They’re making more sales, and we’re providing a service to the customer that’s needed,” Gaskins said.
Studio Cellar provides art supplies with each canvas purchase. Guests can opt to paint whatever they want or select from one of the paintings at the studio that comes with instructions.
Studio Cellar is hiring artists to staff the new Charlotte location, according to its website. Those interested can email examples of their artwork and service industry experience to firstname.lastname@example.org.
