Goodwill is opening a new store in Charlotte’s University City, and a grand opening celebration will be held Saturday morning.
The new store and donation center at 5808 University Pointe Blvd. is Goodwill’s 23rd retail store in the region, the nonprofit said this week. Store proceeds go toward providing job training for individuals with barriers to employment, such as lack of education, Goodwill said.
“We’re thrilled to open an additional retail store location in the University City area to make shopping and donating even more convenient for our supporters,” said Barbara Maida-Stolle, executive vice president of business enterprises at Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont.
For the grand opening Saturday, a ceremonial ribbon cutting will be held at 8:45 a.m., and doors will open for shopping at 9 a.m. Free breakfast and coffee will be available for shoppers, as will prize giveaways like a 32-inch flat screen TV, a laptop computer and a $50 gift card. Additionally, the first 100 guests will receive a free umbrella. Local radio station Channel 96.1 and The Ace & TJ Show personality Lindsay Gladden will be there to provide entertainment.
