Upscale denim boutique Blue Hem will open in South End’s Camden Gallery on Friday.
This is Blue Hem’s first standalone store. The retailer offers a variety of high quality denim apparel for men and women, with products ranging from about $150 to $300.
The boutique at 1750 Camden Road will host a grand opening with drinks and music 5-8 p.m. opening day.
Blue Hem is the first retail tenant to have signed with Camden Gallery, a multifamily project between West Boulevard and Kingston Avenue that includes nearly 9,000 square feet of retail space. Blaze Pizza has also said it’ll open its first Charlotte shop in the Camden development.

The denim store was supposed to have opened last fall, but management has said construction delays pushed back the opening.
“It’s been a long time coming, so we are super excited it is so close,” owner Suzy McIntosh said.
Blue Hem’s opening fits a trend in South End. Charlotte developers have been looking to fill a retail void in the neighborhood with, for example, the addition of brands like Anthropologie and Free People in Atherton Mill. They say the goal is to have a mix of local and national retailers of food and “soft goods,” like apparel, jewelry and footwear.
