Krispy Kreme is giving away original glazed doughnuts at its North Carolina stores in celebration of something it’s calling the “Doughnut Harvest,” on Friday – April Fools’ Day.
Stores throughout the state, including in the Charlotte area, are participating in the giveaway. Each customer gets one free doughnut, Krispy Kreme said.
“This year, on account of the unusually fair winter, the Doughnut Harvest was especially bountiful. Now, for the first time, the surplus is so great we are inviting guests everywhere to join us in celebration,” the Winston-Salem-based doughnut maker joked on its website.
A sense of humor isn’t required to participate, though it’s “strongly encouraged,” Krispy Kreme said this week. Only a few select U.S. markets aren’t participating.
Krispy Kreme often does doughnut giveaways in the Charlotte area. Ahead of the Carolina Panthers’ first playoff game in January, for example, the company handed out free doughnuts to fans uptown and collected donations for Carolina Panthers Charities. It also did so for fans waiting for the team to return from its game against the New York Giants on Dec. 20.
