City Barbeque is opening a new restaurant in the Ballantyne Town Center in south Charlotte.

The restaurant is about to break ground, and plans to open this fall, a City Barbeque spokeswoman said.

The smokehouse chain is headquartered in Ohio and was started in 1999. Some of its menu items include pulled pork, beef brisket, mac and cheese and hush puppies.

In North Carolina, City Barbeque has locations in Cary, Durham and Garner. The Ballantyne restaurant will be its first in the Charlotte area.

The Ballantyne shopping center is at 11218 Providence Road West. Also coming to Ballantyne Town Center is a Rise Biscuits Donuts, a Durham-based chain that expects to open later in the summer.
