Florida-based grocer Publix is opening its first Gastonia store on July 6.

The supermarket will be in a former Lowes Foods at 1949 Hoffman Road, in the Hoffman Village. The grocer opens its doors at 7 a.m.

Lowes Foods has been gradually shifting its store portfolio away from Charlotte and closed its remaining Gastonia stores April 1, 2015. Publix bought the Gastonia location last year.

Publix opened its first North Carolina store in Ballantyne in early 2014. Most recently, the fast-growing grocery chain said it will open a Sherrills Ford store in late 2017.

The Gastonia store will be the company’s 15th in the Charlotte metro, which includes parts of South Carolina.
