A new shop called the Beef Jerky Outlet is now open in the Arboretum Shopping Center. The store held a soft opening June 2, and it will host a grand opening July 16.

The outlet sells over 200 different jerky varieties, including meats from kangaroo, alligator, venison and elk, and in different flavors like Moonshine and Cajun.

In the Arboretum, it’s located between the Five Guys and Firehouse Subs.

The new Charlotte Beef Jerky Outlet is owned by Jeff Sherman, former chief financial officer of Harris Teeter. He retired early in 2012, right before the Matthews-based grocer was bought by Kroger, according to a statement this week.

The store’s grand opening July 16 begins when the store opens at 10 a.m. A portion of the sales from the day will be donated to the Siskey YMCA of Greater Charlotte, the retailer said.

“My favorite part of the store is that you get to try it before you buy it and we have more than 200 varieties and sizes to choose from. Even if you don’t want jerky, there are tons of gourmet snacks and spices,” Sherman said.

The store is open Monday-Thursday 10 a.m.-7 p.m., Friday 10 a.m.-8 p.m. and Sunday noon-6 p.m. It is at 8020 Providence Road, Suite 400.
