The T.J. Maxx in Charlotte’s University City is relocating to a new spot about two miles up the road and will open Aug. 11.

The store that’s closing is at 8712 JW Clay Blvd., the retailer said in a statement Friday. The new, 22,000 square-foot store will be at 8331 Ikea Blvd., right off University City Boulevard.

On the day of the grand opening, the store will be open starting at 8 a.m. Reusable bags will be given to the first 1,000 customers. The new store will be open Monday-Thursday 9:30 a.m.-9:30 p.m., and Friday-Saturday 9:30 a.m.-10 p.m.

“We are pleased to provide a new store in Charlotte, delivering value and an exciting selection of merchandise to serve the needs of customers,” said Richard Sherr, president of T.J.Maxx.

T.J. Maxx sells off-price apparel, jewelry, home goods, pet supplies, toys and more. The retailer operates about a dozen stores in the Charlotte area, according to its website.
