City Barbeque will open its first Charlotte restaurant in Ballantyne Aug. 27.

The new barbecue joint is in the Ballantyne Town Center, at 11218 Providence Road West. Ahead of the opening, the restaurant said on its Facebook page it’s hiring several positions that offer perks like full-time benefits and free meals.

Also before the opening, the restaurant’s holding a barbecue sauce contest that will award the winner a trophy, $250 City Barbeque gift card and the possibility of having their sauce added to the restaurant’s menu, according its website. Those interested can submit their recipe and contact information to CWoodard@citybbq.com from now until Aug. 12.

All sauces will be prepared by City Barbeque staff and sampled by a panel of judges on the restaurant’s opening day.

The smokehouse chain is headquartered in Ohio and was started in 1999. Some of its menu items include pulled pork, beef brisket, mac and cheese and hush puppies.

In North Carolina, City Barbeque has locations in Cary, Durham and Garner.
