Mac’s Speed Shop is opening a location in downtown Matthews this fall.

The new BBQ spot will be at 142 E. John St., the restaurant/bar said in a statement this week.

Mac’s menu includes hand-pulled pork, smoked wings, beer-can chicken, St. Louis and Kansas City style ribs, and southern sides like hush puppies, collard greens, Brunswick stew and banana pudding. Mac’s also serves local craft beer and offers catering.

Mac’s first opened in an old transmission shop in South End in 2005. It also has two other locations in Charlotte, as well as others in Steele Creek, Lake Norman, Fayetteville, Greensboro and Greenville, S.C.

Earlier this spring, Mac’s won first place in the ribs, pork and chicken competitions at the Beer, Bourbon and BBQ Festival in Charlotte. The restaurant also took home the “Grand Champions” award at the contest.
