The Ritz Carlton in uptown Charlotte just opened a wine boutique designed to accommodate changing wine-drinking habits.
Hidden Wine officially opened July 28, a spokeswoman said. It’s open to hotel guests and the public, and wine can be taken back to guests’ hotel rooms, an outside destination or to the hotel lobby, where it can be professionally served, according to a statement from the hotel this week. The shop’s in the lobby, just to the right of the hotel check-in desk.
The shop addresses the trend of “moving away from wine consumption in lounges and restaurants,” said David Rothwell, the hotels’ general manager.
“We have heard first-hand the desire of millennials and other generations for more options in how they consume and experience their wines, and Hidden Wine has been created specifically to address this,” Rothwell said.

The shop sells large selection of European and American wines, as well as sparkling wines and Champagnes. It also provides an in-store listing of local restaurants that allow customers to bring their own wine.
Hidden Wine will be open Tuesday through Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The Ritz is at 201 E. Trade St.
