If you’re craving something free in the next couple of days (who isn’t?) check out the Philly Pretzel Factory in Mooresville on Sunday.
In honor of National Pretzel Day, an “unofficial” holiday celebrated each April 26, the Philly Pretzel Factory is offering free pretzels to customers at all its locations. That includes North Carolina’s only Philly Pretzel Factory on 591 South River Highway in Mooresville, which will dole out free salted pretzels from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. that day.
Owner Valerie Brang took the store over last June after running a Rita’s Italian Ice for several years, she said. Philly Pretzel Factory is a Philadelphia-based franchise founded by college friends in 1998. Since then, it’s expanded with more than 150 franchised locations in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.
On top of the traditional pretzel salted and cinnamon varieties, the eatery offers pretzel bites, pretzel dogs (hot dogs rolled into pretzels) and cheesesteak pretzels.
The dough is freshly made and twisted every day – meaning at least two extra staff members will be on hand Sunday to make sure the pretzels are ready, Brang said.
“Giving the free pretzels away will be easy,” she said. “We have to get (employees) in early in the morning...to twist pretzels.”
And because she’s experienced at participating at big giveaways, Brang expects lines out the door on Sunday.
Also offering freebies this week is Jamba Juice, which celebrates its 25th-year anniversary on Thursday. From 9 a .m. to 11 a.m., Jamba Juice shops nationwide will give patrons a free 12-ounce juice or small smoothie. According to the fine print at the bottom of a promotional flier, this only applies to Tropical Greens, Strawberries Wild or Caribbean Passion flavors – while supplies last.
The offer is not valid at Jamba Juice locations in Hawaii, Downtown Disney, the Las Vegas strip, any airport (which includes the Charlotte Douglas International Airport) and select university shops.
But no worries. I entered “Charlotte” in a search engine on the Jamba Juice website to see which shops are eligible here. They include Founders Hall in the Bank of America Corporate Center in uptown and the Mallard Pointe Center on 9211 N. Tryon St.
