With his project fully funded through a Kickstarter campaign, Rob Dietz's Smiley Sock Collection is now on sale online.
Dietz, who worked in the local sporting goods retail business for a decade, says he always had the desire to do his own thing. For several years, DeFeet has manufactured Dietz's socks, which stand for their bright colors and smiley logo. “Every time I wear them, people would say ‘Where did you get them?’”
So Dietz set out with a plan to raise enough money to fund a line of socks. His campaign raised $6,076, exceeding his $6,000 goal.

“The biggest response is people just like the fun aspect of it,” he says. “I would love to go out to a 5K and see a bunch of people wearing them.”
Prices start at $10.99. Dietz plans to link a charity initiative, “Buy a smile, give a smile,” and donate a portion of the proceeds to The Joy of Sox, an organization that provides socks to the homeless.
