What makes a Top Workplace? We asked people at our 50 Top Workplaces why they love their jobs. Terry Douglas and Tiffany Walker respond for Pulcra Chemicals.
When chemical operator Terry Douglas began working at Pulcra Chemicals nearly five years ago, chemist Tiffany Walker knew she would soon follow.
“This is my BFF, my best friend forever. Fourteen years,” says Douglas, 62, noting how long the two have worked together at different companies.
“I knew where I was coming,” says Walker, 40, about joining Pulcra. “This is a good culture, a positive environment. I knew I would be able to move up in the company.”
Working in a lab at the Rock Hill-based manufacturer of specialty chemicals for the fiber, textile and leather industry, Douglas blends batches that going to be sold to customers. Walker makes sure samples meet customers’ expectations, and also ensures safety guidelines are followed.
Management cares about employees, Douglas and Walker say, as proven by the company picnics, baseball games and birthday cake at meetings. Walker is pursuing her MBA at Winthrop University, thanks to the company’s tuition reimbursement program. And employees care about each other. “We have baby showers here, even for the men,” Walker says. “I smile every day when I come to work.”
