About this map.
About this map. This map shows information for nearly 200 commercial properties showing signs of financial stress, according to data obtained by Bloomberg News from companies servicing loans on the properties. The commentary from loan servicers is quoted verbatim. Data for the map was compiled by the Observer June 15-30, andmay not include subsequent changes.

The properties shown have loans that were packaged and resold to investors, also calledcommercial mortgage backed securities, or CMBS.Packaged loans are estimated to account for about 20 percent of commercial loans nationwide. They are typically for income-producing properties such as hotels, apartments, shopping centers and offices. These loans require more financial disclosure than others.

Properties on the map have loans that servicers have put on their "watchlist" or arein foreclosure or are otherwise facing stress, such as being unable to refinance.A few loans, shown with blue markers, have been liquidated or otherwise terminated at a loss.
