The North Carolina Highway Patrol says there were nine fatal crashes on state highways over the three-day Labor Day holiday period.
That’s one less than last year, when there were 10 fatal wrecks and 365 injury collisions over the Labor Day weekend.
None of the nine were in Mecklenburg County, but one was reported Sept. 3 in Iredell County, on U.S. 64, four miles west of Statesville.
The other fatal crashes occurred in Franklin, Dare, Robeson, Transylvania, Richmond, Graham, Cleveland and Nash counties.
The numbers are preliminary and did not include accidents with only injuries.
