After three days fighting to survive, a 17-month-old Alexander County boy has died, prompting first degree murder charges against a Taylorsville man.
The suspect, Justin Lon Carver, 25, is accused in the death Camden Hudson, the son of a woman Carver was dating.
Carver, who is not the child’s biological father, was arrested Monday afternoon by the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office, after the child died at Brenner’s Children’s Hospital in Winston Salem.
Carver’s first appearance is Wednesday in Alexander County District Court. He is being held in the Alexander County Detention Center without bond.
Investigators say they received a 911 call on Sept. 23 from a home on NC 16 South that reported the boy had fallen off a couch. The boy was unresponsive when EMS arrived, and the injuries were inconsistent with falling off a couch, officials said.
An investigation determined that the boy had been abused and that Carver was the only caregiver of the child at the time of the incident, officials said.
