1 dead, child seriously injured in Huntersville crash

A driver died and a child suffered life-threatening injuries in a three-vehicle wreck at the intersection of Sam Furr Road and Westmoreland Road in Huntersville on Thursday, police said.

The wreck, at 6:50 a.m., involved a car, a pick-up truck and a cargo van. Medic pronounced the car driver dead at the scene. The child was taken to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

Family members confirmed that the car driver and child were Dana Knox, 40, and her daughter Avery, 3, WSOC reported.

Medic took the drivers of the van and the pick-up to area hospitals with injuries not considered life-threatening.

The cause of the crash “is still in the preliminary investigative stage” and yet to be determined, police said.
