A new community initiative will send teachers, first responders and members of the military to the Belk Bowl in Charlotte next month for free.
The Hail to Heroes campaign will offer discounted tickets to companies throughout the region to give away, the Charlotte Chamber and Charlotte Sports Foundation announced Tuesday. The tickets are good for the Belk Bowl itself, which will be played Dec. 29, as well as the Tim McGraw performance beforehand at the FanFest at BB&T BallPark.
“There are heroes in our community that need our thanks, our recognition and our appreciation, and those are our teachers, firefighters, medics, police and our military,” said Will Webb, executive director of the Charlotte Sports Foundation.
The Belk Bowl will be played at 5:30 p.m. at Bank of America Stadium.
The individual “heroes” will be recognized on LED ribbons in the stadium on the day of the game, officials Tuesday said. There’s not yet a cap on the number of tickets that will be given away.
The program includes several different package options companies can buy for the game, from a $5,000 package with 100-level tickets to a $25,000 package with 300-level tickets, along with numerous recognition spots throughout the game.
Companies interested in receiving more information on ticket packages can contact Jason Lowman at the Charlotte Sports Foundation at (704) 943-3550.
The Belk Bowl, a college football game in its 15th year, matches an SEC and an ACC team that will be announced in early December after the last regular season game.
