Three horses were found loose at a retirement community on Providence Road in south Charlotte Wednesday night.
Shortly before 8:30 p.m., animal control officers were called to Waltonwood Providence, in the 11900 block of Providence Road near Union County. The horses were eventually loaded onto a horse trailer and taken to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Animal Care & Control facility.
Initial attempts to find the owner were unsuccessful, even after Union County sheriff’s officers helped knock on doors and talk with residents on nearby Hemby Road.
A tip from someone at Time Warner Cable News finally led officials to the owner on Thursday afternoon.

Animal Care & Control purposely did not distribute photos and descriptions of the horses during the search, to ensure that no one came forward to reclaim the horses who did not own them.
