Those helicopters you saw or heard buzzing around uptown Charlotte on Thursday were not responding to an emergency or police action.
They lifted off from the staff parking lot of the NASCAR Hall of Fame after the Air Medical Transport Conference at the Charlotte Convention Center.
The conference began Tuesday and ended Thursday. It was originally scheduled for late September, but was postponed because of the Charlotte street protests after the fatal shooting by a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer of Keith Lamont Scott. Some of the protests turned violent.
The Association of Air Medical Services hosted the conference, which drew about 2,500 air medical transport professionals from across the world.
On Thursday, the helicopters were towed from the convention center, where they were on display, to the parking lot for lift-off.
